Got My Baby
Words and music by Jenn Lindsay

Hey, I got my baby
And she is the only baby I will ever need
She's got the longest neck you ever seen
And six lovely steel strings
Some nights I'm up till four holding her in my arms
We make sounds together deep in the dark
My baby makes me stronger
Makes me stronger all through the night
This morning I did three whole pull-ups,
Bringing my lifetime grand total to five

Now I'm a muscle-man a one-girl-band,
A one-night stand-up, boom boom bam
The only baby I need stays with me all night

Some nights I reach for my baby
And my babe don't reach back so good
She lie in bed all hard and cold
Almost like she made of wood
Baby don't reach back so good
It's almost like she made of wood

I used to have a babe who would reach back
Some nights I was up till four
Holding those hands in my hands
It's nice when your baby has hands
When your baby has arms, and has to be fed
I admit it's much much better than holding hands in your head

Once you fall in love your whole life gets worse
Your words get simple and they get absurd
Who wants to get misty when someone else is near
Who wants to be called things like pookie and dear
Who wants to run their fingers through someone else's hair

It would be nice if my baby had hair

But I'm a troubadour, I’m a lone star, a cowgirl poet
I buy my own beer at the bar, you know it
My heart is a beautiful tower and I am the beautiful guard
My friend said there's another word for what you are:
You're single! You're single!
No euphemize, no pretty prize, the word for that is single
Not room to think or reason to drink, you're S-I-N-G Single!
And everyone is in love except you
Never knew that baby, did you?

Hey, I got my baby
And she is the only baby I will ever need
She's got the longest neck you ever seen
And six lovely steel strings
Baby don't reach back so good,
Almost like she made of wood
Baby don't don't don't reach back,
I don't give a goddamn bout that
Cuz she's got the only thing I will ever need
